Gazprombank Successfully Completes First Large-Scale Sustainability Training Program for Employees
11 May 2023

Moscow, May 11, 2023 – Gazprombank has completed the Sustainable Development Ambassadors program, the last step of its multi-stage sustainable development training project for employees. A unique project in Russia, the Ambassador training program was held in February and April 2023 and featured leading experts from the scientific and business communities. A club of successful training participants was formed for a more efficient implementation of sustainable development principles in each business stream and branch of the bank. The club will become a crucial tool for the initiation and implementation of sustainable development projects in all of the bank’s business areas.

150 out of the 600 employees who applied from all over the country were selected for the program. The educational part took a month and a half and included seven lectures on ESG transformation, responsible financing, climate change, energy transition, communications, and non-financial reporting. More than 20 lecturers who shared knowledge in the field of sustainable development included not only invited speakers but also experts from the bank’s divisions that implement responsible financing and sustainable development projects. The training was hybrid: those residing in Moscow could attend in person, while participants from other regions joined online.

After the lectures were done, participants formed 15 teams, each working on a case in one of the three areas: ESG products and services, climate risks, or responsible marketing. The cases were close to the bank’s real activities so that the results could be used in its business processes. The participants also passed a test to prove their knowledge. 93 employees of the bank who successfully completed the training program joined the Sustainable Development Ambassadors club that will meet regularly to continuously improve the members’ knowledge and systematically implement the bank’s current initiatives in the area of sustainable development.

“Gazprombank is building the best expertise in the field of sustainable development because we know that whoever starts doing it today will get an undeniable advantage tomorrow. At the same time, efficient implementation of the sustainable development agenda is impossible without the personal engagement of those who understand that sustainable development is not just a trend or a matter of public image but a serious effort for the benefit of future generations,” said Elena Borisenko, Deputy Chairman of the Management Board at Gazprombank.

The Sustainable Development Ambassadors initiative is part of the multi-stage sustainable development training program for the employees of Gazprombank that was launched in January 2022. It started with an ESG crash course for the management at the beginning of last year. More than 150 people took part in it, including Deputy Chairmen of the Management Board of the Bank, First Vice Presidents, and Department Heads and Directors of the companies of the Gazprombank Group.
