Moscow, March 11, 2021 — Gazprombank adopted its Sustainable Development Policy. The document specifies the Bank’s shared approaches in three areas of sustainable development – economic, social and environmental, and establishes its approaches to responsible investment and financing, including goals and objectives in its core businesses.
The Policy establishes sustainable development goals developed by the UN that are priorities for the Bank, as well as its commitment to the principles of responsible banking defined by the United Nations Environment Program Finance Initiative (UNEP FI).
The objectives embraced by Gazprombank in the context of this Policy include minimizing the negative impact of the Bank’s activities on the environment, promoting the social and economic development of all regions of the Russian Federation – including the regions of the Bank’s presence, promoting the development of responsible investment and financing mechanisms, supporting high standards in the field of management and social policy, improving support measures within the framework of ESG projects (ESG – Environmental, Social, Governance) and establishing the appropriate evaluation system for them.
Adoption of the Sustainable Development Policy is yet another step of comprehensive activities aimed at introduction of the ESG framework into the operations of the Bank and its partner companies. In particular, a Council for the Introduction of Sustainable Development Principles and a Working Group have already been created at Gazprombank.
“Nowadays, it is not optional for many companies to take sustainable development principles into account. The ESG agenda is becoming increasingly important at the national level, as well as an integral prerequisite of the company’s success on the market and in the global context. In its aspiration toward building a sustainable economy, Gazprombank is actively introducing the ESG framework at all levels of the organization’s operations and working on creating new conditions for relations with customers who share the Bank’s position on ESG. The newly-adopted Sustainable Development Policy is a key document that regulates and guides our activities in this field,” commented Alexey Matveev, Deputy Chairman of Gazprombank’s Management Board and Deputy Chairman of the Council for the Introduction of Sustainable Development Principles in the Bank’s Operations.
