Elena Borisenko Discusses the Establishment of Responsible-Financing Infrastructure in Russia
17 May 2021

Moscow, May 17, 2021 — Elena Borisenko, Deputy Chairwoman of Gazprombank’s Management Board, took part in the roundtable discussion “The role of the state, regulators and the financial sector and their interaction under the shaping of a sustainable green financial sector in the Russian Federation,” organized by the TASS News Agency. Gazprombank was also represented by Vyacheslav Fetisov, Independent Member of the Council for the Introduction of Sustainable Development Principles into Bank Operations and a UN Goodwill Ambassador.

In her remarks, Elena Borisenko emphasized that Gazprombank is striving to become a conductor of transformation in the Russian financial sector by attempting to steer it towards a long-term sustainable-development model. The Bank is actively assisting its clients and partners in the crafting of profitable and long-term business development strategies. The consistency of approaches by the Bank and its clients, as well as the development of shared principles of an ESG culture, are a prerequisite for the sustainability of the entire financial system — for an accelerated transition to new operating principles under which all financial-market players become beneficiaries.

Elena Borisenko also noted that the Bank has actively introduced principles of enhanced information disclosure, used new process solutions and implemented projects in the field of green financing. In particular, the Bank has already organized the placement of green bonds by Russian issuing companies for $850 mln, extended loans for more than 60% of all of Russia’s wind-generation projects and cooperated with the Luxembourg Green Exchange.

“We are absolutely convinced that the improvement of responsible financing and sustainable development are an integral part of our fiduciary responsibility to the Bank’s shareholders, employees, clients and contractors. Our joint efforts aimed at the introduction of these principles are making a serious contribution to the capitalization of companies, to the interest they pose to Russian and international investors, and especially — to the welfare of every person on Earth, regardless of the territory in which they live,” remarked Elena Borisenko in the course of her speech.
