Special attitude towards the world around us and reducing negative environmental impact
The term ‘sustainable development’ was introduced for the first time in 1987 in the Our Common Future report released by the World Commission on Environment and Development:
“Sustainable development is the development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.”
Why companies pay attention to sustainability concerns
The decision of many companies to embrace sustainability agenda in their business practices was influenced by many factors. Before investors mostly focused on financial performance indicators and reputation of the companies. Now they pay special attention to non-financial indicators like environmental aspects, corporate culture, company governance processes and ‘transparency’ of operations.
